Thank you for your support this year! We have heard from many of you this fall, some old friends and some new. If we have not heard from you, would you include us in your December giving? (All donations are 100% tax deductible.)
We are busy preparing for upcoming policy battles (and at least a few victories) here in Minnesota. The 2012 Legislative Session and Elections are just around the corner.
The donations we receive at the end of the year will determine what we can do early in 2012 and boost confidence in our shared mission.
The legislative session, which opens January 24th, is scheduled to be short and fast (just 10 weeks). We want to concentrate on educating our elected officials, the public and the media (who often just do not get this free market, limited government thing!).
That means we have to know now what we want to accomplish during the session-and to do that, we have to have a budget. Given the nature of the beast, we also have to remain nimble, ready to respond as issues come up.
A good example is Governor Dayton’s Executive Order, ordering an election to allow AFSCME and SEIU public unions to represent private in-home childcare providers. The order is an abuse of the governor’s authority. Aren’t we Minnesotans lucky that 11 brave daycare providers are willing to take on the governor and the public unions?
It was not on our agenda but we feel privileged to know these business women and want to lend a hand. They have been fighting this “organizing” effort for over 5 years all alone. Supporting them was the right thing to do for them— and for you as taxpayers and supporters of limited government.
So please give generously and know that lots of little numbers add up to big numbers. Your donations are needed, appreciated and spent very carefully.
We have some big plans for the New Year and look forward to sharing the details in January!
We will focus on four major areas:
- Sustainable State Government (including public pension reform)
- Free Market Environmentalism (including Reinventing Environmentalism)
- Affordable Healthcare (fighting the “ill effects” of ObamaCare)
- Minnesota’s Business Climate (with a focus on taxes and the cost of labor).
I want to ask for a donation but not without telling you what we have done this year to earn your financial support. Think of us as idea entrepreneurs and advocates for the values that made our nation great—and will again if we do not give up.
People are paying attention; they are energized and pushing back. We have an election in 2012 when We the People get to Vote. Let’s make the most of it; let’s convince our neighbors that free people and free markets create prosperity-not government and unions!
You should know that we are constantly thanked by our elected leaders for our efforts. They need our ideas and support. By helping the Minnesota Free Market Institute, you have a bigger voice in Saint Paul.
You can donate with a credit card or mail a check. Click here for all the details.
Please pass this on to your friends and neighbors, and ask them to join us by signing up for emails here. (You can use the same link to give us your postal address or any new contact information.)
Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah from the Minnesota Free Market Institute!
