ANDREW BIGGS FROM THE AMERICAN ENTERPRISE INSTITUTE TO TESTIFY AT PENSION COMMISSION THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10th

ANDREW BIGGS FROM THE AMERICAN ENTERPRISE INSTITUTE TO TESTIFY AT PENSION COMMISSION THIS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH (State Office Bldg Room 5, Click Here for the Agenda and Schedule).

CONTACT: KIM CROCKETT [email protected] OR 612.388.2820 FOR INFORMATION.

Keith Brainard, research director of the National Association of State Retirement Administrators (NASRA), and an aggressive and talented defender of the status quo, is scheduled to testify about hybrid plans adopted throughout the country (and maybe other topics). Brainard and Prof. Josh Rauh from Northwestern’s Kellogg School have been carrying on a public (virtual debate).

The Minnesota Free Market Institute invited Andrew Biggs from the American Enterprise Institute (“AEI), a DC based think tank to testify on November 10th, as well.

Andrew G. Biggs is a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, DC. Prior to joining AEI he was the principal deputy commissioner of the Social Security Administration (SSA), where he oversaw SSA’s policy research efforts and led the agency’s participation in the Social Security Trustees working group. His impressive qualifications can be viewed here. You can view his publications here.

The Minnesota House of Representatives will conduct two public hearings on childcare unionization on Monday, October 24th at 7:00 PM. One in Rochester and one in St. Cloud.

Update: Here are some of the news reports from Saint Cloud and Rochester from last night’s hearings. While these news reports are rather weak on the facts, the comments from readers are encouraging. People understand that this threat to impose a public union on privately own small businesses is a clumsy attempt to increases the dues-paying base for AFSCME and SEIU. If, however, Governor Dayton (mis)uses the power of the state and issues an executive order even for an election, clumsy becomes brutish. And a terrible precedent will be set for Minnesota if Dayton and the unions succeed. Unions are casting around for more dues; next will be in-home healthcare workers. We will post any video as it becomes available.

The SEIU and AFSCME unions are still driving towards forcing Minnesota’s 11,000 independent, home-based childcare providers to unionize. This will result in higher childcare costs and the only tangible benefit will be to the unions who are hoping to swell their coffers by another $3.3 million per year in forced union dues.

Governor Dayton is sympathetic to the union’s cause and could move at any time to sign an executive order calling for a vote to establish the childcare providers unions.

You can help stop this ridiculous scheme!

The Minnesota House is holding public hearings in St. Cloud and Rochester on Monday, October 24th at 7:00 PM. Parents with children in daycare and childcare providers who live in these areas are urged to attend and testify.
